[HOLLYWOOD NEWS] When Can Marvel Studios Launch ‘Iron Man 4′?

Sitting only behind its predecessor The Avengers as the biggest comic book film of all-time, Iron Man 3 solidified the armored, high-tech character as Marvel’s most bankable hero in cinemas worldwide. That makes Iron Man 4 a highly desirable (read: inevitable) commodity that Disney-owned Marvel will one day produce. The two questions are when and will Robert Downey Jr. be involved? Read more >>

[HOLLYWOOD NEWS] Film Review: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Redundancy remains a problem, but this overlong superhero sequel gets by on sound, fury and star chemistry.

Continuing Peter Parker’s investigation of his shady family history while serving up a brace of villains — one more familiar than the other — for him to contend with, this bloated but enjoyable outing will pull in enough crowds to justify Sony’s reluctance to relinquish this heavily built-up creative property. [HOLLYWOOD NEWS] ‘Captain America 2′ Breaks All-time April Box Office Records

Before Captain America: The Winter Soldier even hit theaters it was confirmed that directors (and brothers) Anthony and Joe Russo would be helping plan out the story for Captain America 3 and again directing. It was a display of confidence from Marvel Studios and its key decision-maker Kevin Feige, but an unsurpising one considering the critical response to the film.

Early reviews of Captain America 2 labeled it one of the studio’s best and now that it’s out, it’s certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with numbers comparable to Iron Man and The Avengers, Marvel’s two strongest scored films to date.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the number 1 film this weekend with $96 million. That’s the biggest April opening ever, ahead of Fast Five‘s $86 million back in 2011.

While many predicted the Marvel train would keep rolling post-Avengers, these Phase 2 films are still far and away exceeding expectations, both financially and critically. Case in point: The Winter Soldier should eclipse the first Captain America‘s $179 million domestic total next weekend.

[HOLLYWOOD NEWS] Marvel Studios Has Mapped Out Films All The Way To 2028

Business Week ran a feature on Kevin Feige and the rise of Marvel Studios and in it they discuss the long-term potential of the franchise, leveraging the established brand and shared universe to continually introduce more and more characters from the 8,000+ they own from the books. Where before we had heard from Feige that they had a pretty good idea of what’s in the pipeline up to and including 2021, that roadmap of upcoming films – literally pasted on the office wall of Kevin Feige’s office –  is substantially larger now, just seven months later. [HOLLYWOOD NEWS] Dwayne Johnson Hints at Potential DC Movie Character Role

Black Adam, for those unfamiliar, is a powerful super-villain who originated in 1945, before he became the primary nemesis for Shazam in the 1970s. However, since the start of the 21st-century, the character has evolved into more of a complex anti-hero and become an important fixture in the DC Comics’ New 52 universe. Dwayne Johnson has been rumored to play the character before, though any chance of a Shazam live-action movie currently seems to be dead in the water – which doesn’t mean Johnson won’t play Black Adam in a different DC movie, of course. [HOLLYWOOD NEWS] ‘Prometheus 2′ Gets a New Writer and likely to be released in 2016

Ridley Scott’s quasi-Alien prequel Prometheus is one of the more divisive sci-fi features churned out by Hollywood in recent times, but its $400 million worldwide gross kept its sequel hopes alive and well.

According to the latest report from 'The Wrap', 20th Century Fox recently claimed a March 4th, 2016 release date for an unspecified Scott feature, which many were quick to guess was staked out with Prometheus 2 in mind. Further, the script draft initially penned by Jake Paglen is now, allegedly, being revised by Michael Green  (Read Details here)

[TECH NEWS] Scientists create 'living materials'

MIT engineers have succeeded in creating "biofilms", which combine bacterial cells with nonliving materials, such as gold nanoparticles, that can conduct electricity or emit light.

The hope is that biofilm, that slippery, slimy material made of bacteria that forms substances like dental plaque, may someday create functioning circuits that could be used to manufacture photovoltaic solar panels or act as "biosensors" that could sense toxins.

The hybrid biofilms have the attributes of living cells, which reproduce and assemble into structure and react to their environment, and materials such as metal that can conduct electricity.

An artist's rendering of a bacterial cell engineered to produce amyloid nanofibers that incorporate particles such as quantum dots (red and green spheres) or gold nanoparticles.

The researchers used E. coli bacteria for their initial experiments because the biofilms produced with it contain "curli fibers", protein chains that help material attach to surfaces. The curli fibers can be modified by adding peptides, which trap nonliving nanoparticles, such as gold or quantum dots, a semiconductor material the size of a nano particle that can be embedded into living cells. The result is a biofilm that reproduces and can conduct electricity.

The research, lead by Timothy Lu, an assistant professor of electrical engineering and biological engineering, was published in the March 23 issue of the journal Nature Materials.

[HOLLYWOOD TRAILER] ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Trailer #2: The Greatest Battle Begins

For a summer blockbuster that’s been labeled the most expensive superhero film of all-time, it’s odd that we haven’t see a new trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past since October.

So we’ve still been waiting to see a trailer where the X-Men of the past and future fight, and fight against Sentinels. Now that time has finally come.

From Sentinels old and new and a man with metal skin, to Sunspot’s fiery transformation to Iceman’s infamous ice slide, this one has all the key mutant superhero powers we know and love from the pages of the X-Men comics, with plenty of dark and brooding story and emotion to go with it.

[SCIENCE NEWS] A Neuroscientist’s Radical Theory of How Networks Become Conscious

It’s a question that’s perplexed philosophers for centuries and scientists for decades: Where does consciousness come from? We know it exists, at least in ourselves. But how it arises from chemistry and electricity in our brains is an unsolved mystery.

Neuroscientist Christof Koch, chief scientific officer at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, thinks he might know the answer. (Read here)

[HOLLYWOOD NEWS] ‘Fast & Furious 7′ to Replace Paul Walker with CGI & Body Doubles

In November 2013, actor Paul Walker unexpectedly died in a fiery car crash in Santa Clarita, California while on break from filming Fast & Furious 7. Only half of the film had been completed, so any plan the studio made had to take this into account as well as respect the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death.

First, there were rumors that the whole film would have to be rewritten, then there was an idea floating around that Walker’s younger brother would be used as a body double along with CGI.
Apparently, the truth now lies somewhere in the middle. According to NY Daily News

[HOLLYWOOD NEWS] ‘Captain America’ Writers Offer ‘Captain America 3′ Story Hint

The wait for Captain America: The Winter Soldier is nearly over. Since the film is not only a continuation of Steve Rogers’ story but also another step along the over-arching path that the Marvel cinematic universe is moving down, it will likely open up many more questions about what’s to come in Captain America 3, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and beyond.

Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were called back to write The Winter Soldier after the success of Captain America: The First Avenger. They’re now putting together ideas for Captain America 3, which is expected to be released in May 2016.

In an interview with Den of Geek, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely spoke in vague terms about the kind of direction they’re planning to take, before dropping a fairly major hint.
